The Unusual Suspects to stream on HULU
HULU has acquired U.S. rights to “The Unusual Suspects,” an English-language heist series starring Miranda Otto (“Homeland”), Aina Dumlao (“Ballers”) and Michelle Vergara Moore (“Condor”), which will compete at Series Mania in Lille.
The Australian series is represented in international markets by the Paris-based co-production and distribution banner About Premium Content (APC), and was produced by Aquarius Films’ (“Lion,” “Berlin Syndrome”) Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford for SBS Australia.
The show garnered strong reviews when it launched on SBS Australia in June 2021 and was described by local newspaper The Australian as “blending the risky class conflict machinations of the Oscar-winning ‘Parasite’ with the vigorously full-throttle comic delivery of the Coen Brothers’ most out-there films.”

Excited to be starting a new Netflix series ‘Heart Break High’. Filming begins very soon in Sydney Australia.
James Bond
I recently had the opportunity to recreate a James Bond scene for Amazon Prime’s ‘The Moth Effect’ starring Bobby Cannavale and Vincent D’Onofrio. Directed by Gracie Otto the scene will go to air in September.
Under the Volcano
I had the pleasure of shooting two of the interviews in this fantastic documentary feature about Beatles producer Sir George Martin’s recoding Studio in Montserrat in the Caribbean. Directed by Gracie Otto and Produced by Cody Greenwood. Distributed by Universal Pictures worldwide.
LEICA PROJECT
I got to follow amazing street photographer Knox Bertie using his Leica Q2 Monochrome for Leica Camera Australia. The interesting thing was shooting the whole project on Leica’s SL2 mirrorless camera and Leica SL lenses. It’s a system I’m familiar with as my recce camera but it turns out to be very good for video as well. Colourist Fergus Rotherham editor Mark Bennett.
Zimmerman Resort Fashion Show
Zimmerman Resort runway show filmed in Sydney at the ICC for event company Rizer. Over 300 LED film lights all DMX controlled via gaffer Shaun Conway through a large purpose built custom scrim. The large amount of light was needed to accomodate motion and stills being able to shoot at the same time. The rear set wall was a single seamless printed fabric over 45 meters long. Four ARRI Alexa cameras filmed continuously to capture the runway show on a mixture of dollies, steadicam and technocrane. Director Gracie Otto. CD Michelle Jank.
Australian Cinematographers society Guest Speaker ~ Simon Ozolins ACS
I was delighted to be invited as a guest speaker to the ACS clubhouse in June.
ACS is delighted to welcome Simon Ozolins ACS as he takes us behind the scenes filming the new TV series "The Unusual Suspects" which has just premiered on SBS.
Shot on location in the middle of Covid-19, Simon will share with us some of his insights and the challenges he faced along his journey.
